Sant Pere del Bosc
Distance: 12 km
Elevation gain: 250 m
Max. Elevation: 160 m
We depart from the Central Tourist Office in Lloret de Mar, located in Carrer de les Alegries, and pass by the Modernist Cemetery.
A little further on we come to the Chapel of Sant Quirze, where we join a path signposted from start to finish as Route 4 of the Selva MTB Centre, which takes us into the forest. Once we reach Avinguda Mare de Déu de Gràcia we pass by the Water World water park and then by the Condado de Jaruco housing development.
We follow this track all the way up to the distinctive Angel Monument, a must-see attraction. After stopping off at the monument, we take the path leading to the tiny Chapel of Our Lady of Grace and to Turó d’en Trompa (hill).
We continue along the path until we arrive back at the Condado de Jaruco housing development and the same road we used for the climb will lead us back to the start point of the route.
The start and end of this route is in a built-up area shared with motor vehicle traffic; please observe traffic signals and use the cycle lanes to minimise the risk of incidents.
Points of interest
Chapel-Oratory of Our Lady of Grace: This small oratory was designed by the Catalan modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, commissioned by the indiano Nicolau Font. It features sacred motifs intertwined with the typical floral motifs of Catalan modernism.
Angel Monument: monument crowned with the statue of an angel with metal wings who points the way to the Chapel of Our Lady of Grace and the path to heaven. A verse by the Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer is inscribed on the central section of the monument, which reads as follows: "Maria al cel guia per camí de flors anem-hi i correm-hi cantant sos amors" ("Mary in heaven guides us along the flowery path; let us go there, let us run there, singing of her love").
Chapel of Sant Quirze: Situated 200 m from the cemetery and 1 km from the town centre. Dates back to prior to the 11th century. No uniform style. Contains engravings by Adrià Gual. Fragments of Roman ceramics have been found in the vicinity of the chapel, along with a coin of Emperor Constantine and several tombs. Accessible. The oldest chapel in Lloret, thought to date back to the victory of a Roman and Christian general named Quirze.
